A new best friend

To celebrate The Bean’s second birthday (where has the time gone? Honestly!), we had a little family outing to the ultrasound clinic for my 12 week scan—yes, she is expecting a little brother or sister! After many months of trying, weeing on sticks and anxiously counting down the days, we are finally looking forward to a new addition.

We told The Bean that she was going to have a sibling, that there was a baby in mummy’s tummy, and showed her the images during the scan. Not sure how much she actually comprehends, but she did tell a few people that ‘mama has a baby in her tummy’, so that’s a start! We’ve got six months to get her used to the idea at any rate.

Grandma got The Bean a beautiful doll for her birthday and I have never seen such love in her eyes—she has a new best friend (Vinnie the cat has been relegated to second place apparently). She was extremely concerned that dolly was hungry and ‘fed’ her until she was satisfied that she was full. After her meal, dolly was tenderly ‘bathed’ and ‘dried’ and accompanied The Bean for her afternoon nap.

The start of a beautiful relationship between a little girl and her dolly...

Weirdly, I was in Tasmania for work in 2010 after I had conceived The Bean but before I knew that I was pregnant. Turns out I was pregnant when we visited Tasmania this year, I just didn’t know it yet!

This is proof that there is something very magical about Tasmania, well, for me anyway. Something in the water perhaps…? Something that makes a pregnancy ‘stick’...?
